Can we say it's summer yet? It sure is starting to feel like it- icecream downtown, staying up late, s'mores over the fire, swimming at Nana and Pop Pop's pool, planting all the things... definitely summer!
And we are here for it!
May started with a trip to meet our brand new cousin, Elouise Juliet! She is so sweet and the kids are excited to have another cousin in the crew.
Another big thing happened- Isla had her first haircut ever! She probably had about 6 or 7 inches taken off. And we are all so excited to not be dealing with tangles anymore :)

She also started horse back riding lessons. She has decided she wants to be a farmer who rides horses when she grows up :) It sure was funny to watch tiny little Isla crawl up the biggest horse in the stable.
I had a great Mother's Day. It started with breakfast in the morning, church, lunch, lots of playing outside, and snuggles with a movie to end the day. I sure love being a mama. I can't imagine a better thing to be. I love my babies and I feel honored to be their mother.
We had a big day with our co-op friends this month. We have been reading through the Little House series and learning about life as an early pioneer. Our group has also been reading the books, so we all came together for a Pioneer Day at our house. We made rag dolls, had potato sack races, searched for beads at the abandoned American Indian camps, churned our own butter, and finished with a pioneer potluck complete with food that Laura Ingalls would have eaten. And the bonus was my sweet mother-in-law not only made bonnets and an apron for the girls, she also prepped all the rag dolls for our friends and showed us how to make them.
We had another mini family day trip this month to Springfield. The kids have been wanting to ride a real train, so they rode it an hour to Springfield. I met them with Eleanor and the van and we had a day of fun. We tried a tv-famous diner and visited a cute little zoo. I'm grateful for the time I have to do this with my babies, but also for Michael's job that allows the flexibility and finances to support day trips as a family.
And if the weather didn't confirm it was summer, the time at the pool sure did! We have been swimming at Nana and Pop Pop's pool and even had a family swim at State Farm Park! We've even had friends join us already. They are all fish, but of all my kids, Ewan is the bravest in the water. He's been jumping off the side and going under with absolutely no fear!
We had another co-op day at our fellow-homeschooler's house where the mom, who is a garden expert, gave us a little lesson on the plant life cycle and how to take care of a garden. The kids got to decorate a pot and plant their own little seeds. Like I've said before, I'm so grateful for this group of like-minded mamas that want to contribute to my children's education.
Besides how busy we have been, we have racked up quite a few hours outside. I've basically forced my children outside every second they are awake. But with that comes parks, eating popsicles, running through sprinklers, riding bikes, climbing trees, and all the fun outdoor things of summer! They even have fun toys to play with outside at their grandparent's houses!
Inside activities in this kind of weather consist of things that have to be done, like cooking dinner, bathing, and sleeping :)
We finished off the month of May with a BANG! Memorial weekend was spent with the Readys. We got lots of cousin time, good food, and fun swimming. I sure am glad my kids have cousins to make special memories with.
What a great start to our summer!
