Another year, another October. It's simply one of the best months. We had a great first half (which I shared in the last post) and a fast second half. I really can't believe it's November now!
We have enjoy all the fall things! In school we have been sorting leaves by color, reading Halloween books, learning about the life cycle of a pumpkin, writing autumn poems, learning about spiders and making our own webs, watching videos about why leaves change colors, counting pumpkin seeds, and making all the fall crafts. I especially love school by the fire outside with some kind of warm drink and a big blanket.
In co-op we have been doing all the fall things with a trip to the local pumpkin patch and then a Halloween party! It's fun to get dressed up, play with friends, and enjoy the season together.
In our spare time and extra days we have been enjoying nature. We are really close to our 1,000 hours outside mark, so we try to find creative ways to get outside. Sometimes that means skipping "school" for the day (because it's GORGEOUS outside) and meeting up with friends for a hike. We have even taken several family hikes this month. We love all the colors! And sometimes it means dinner around the fire or carving pumpkins on the porch. Whatever way... we love time in nature!
(Can you spot the eagle? It had just caught a fish and flew it up to feed it's baby!)
Some of the random, but noteworthy moments from this month:
*A gift from Nana and Isla- they worked on a tree skirt from material that Amma had put together in years past. I can't wait to put it under one of our trees.
*Isla had a few chances to read to dogs at the library. It's a program she absolutely loves and wants to continue to do each week. I love it because it motivates her to practice her reading, which is a little bit of a struggle right now.
And of course to end October, we went trick or treating! I'm not a big Halloween fan, but I do love the fun of Halloween night with all the costumes, candy, and excitement in the air. We joined our neighbors and had a full night!
And, as is tradition, on November 1st... the tree goes up. But I'll save that for another post ;)
