I have this desire to share everything that is happening with Isla, but it's hard to do so for a few reasons. 1.) People often get annoyed with "oversharing" (the strange rules of social media) 2.) I want to be conscious about how private we keep our lives.
So while I want to share often, I also want to respect the privacy of our family and Isla's life. I would be upset if my mom had shared some of my childhood with hundreds of people. It's a different world with social media and there are certain limitations we want to set up. However, I often feel like the people I most want to see what we are doing in our lives, miss out on it. Social media can be used in great ways to share our lives too!
My solution is this blog. I want to share this with family and friends that genuinely have an interest in what we do, what Isla is learning, and how we are growing as a family. So if that is you, I encourage you to save this blog to your favorites. You can even sign up to receive an email every time a new blog post goes live. I plan on posting weekly (but also want to remain realistic). I hope you enjoy sharing and learning about our little life!
And to update you on Isla:
*She is a champ napper (most days), but still wakes up several times a night. She goes to bed between 7:00/7:30 most nights and sleeps until 3:00/4:00 (usually). Every once in awhile, she'll need a visit from mom around 11:00. After she wakes at 3:00/4:00, its luck of the draw what we'll get. Sometimes, she'll continue to wake up often until we get up for the day. Other times, she'll sleep until 5:30ish. At that time, dad gets her and brings her to our bed. She nurses/sleeps with me until 6:00 when we all get up for the day. Next week we are going to see a sleep specialist. Since we have tried ALL methods of sleep training to no avail, we want to rule out anything significant going on. Michael and I both feel she has "Ready and Redhead Blood" (the most stubborn blood of all!).
*Isla and my nursing journey is slowly coming to an end. During and after my miscarriage, my milk supply has taken a huge hit. It comes and goes and I never know what Isla is getting. Sometimes she seems satisfied, other times she's so fussy after a feed. When I have done weighted feeds with the lactation consultant we work with, she gets 0-1 oz (that's too small of an amount!). We do about 3 bottles of formula a day, but nurse 3 times a day too. I'm very sad to end this journey (whenever that is). Breastfeeding has been both challenging and so attaching. It is the most intricate and beautiful thing to literally give life to my baby with my body. Other moms I have talked to have said weaning can feel a little bit like a break up or a death. I get that. She's as chunky as can be, so I don't think she's suffering at all :)
*Isla seems to learn something new every day. Michael comes home to a new skill at least a few times a week. She loves to play peekaboo, share her toys (and she doesn't take them back anymore!), point at everything, wave "hi" and "bye", walk along the furniture, feed and drink herself, manipulate toys, and so much more! I love watching her grow. Her personality is coming through and I love it.
Here are some recent pictures from this last week:
I can't wait to continue to share more about our family with you! Love to all.
