We've been learning all about dinosaurs. I pulled out all my school curriculum on dinos, got our plastic dinosaurs out of storage, and have been having so much fun with Isla. She really likes the Centorasaurus (we thought it was a T-rex, but it's not) and the Triceratops (because it's the "Rah Rah" dinosaur- that's her name for Auntie Sarah).
I ended up getting shingles a couple weeks ago, so I've been having a rough time being a present and intentional mom. It's really nice to have these units where I can just set out her bin or put the dinosaurs out for hours of play. And on that note, I'm almost completely done with my shingles, but OH MY GOSH it's been terrible. What kind of 29 year old gets shingles? It's so terrible.
She loves to snuggle and kiss her dinosaurs.
She likes looking at the pictures of the dinosaurs as she plays. She can identify the T-rex and Triceratops.
The dinosaurs needed a bath.
We love to read! We'll have to make a trip to the library to get some more dino books.
I froze some dinosaurs in a ice sphere and Isla had a really fun time trying to get them out!
After some observation and contemplation, her first method was to lick them out.
She spent a long time licking her ice cube. This was her licking it off the ground haha
Then I handed her a wooden spoon and showed her how to hammer the ice. She thought that was really fun. We tried pouring warm water over the ice too, but she was too impatient for that. Eventually, she chewed her friends out!
Helping her dinosaur get up the stairs in her dinosaur diaper.
We chatted about fossils and I showed her how to make tracks and imprints in the playdough. She was giggling and curious the whole time.
She even pointed to each toe imprint as we counted them.
It was so nice one day, that we spent the afternoon outside (in February if you can believe it!). We picked up some rocks and brought them inside. She scrubbed with her brush and some soap to clean her "fossils" up.
We even had a dino lunch one day. Complete with a brontosaurus peanut butter sandwich and a triceratops broccoli/potato bite!
We did our riskiest bin ever- split peas! Isla is pretty great now at keeping things in the bin. Sometimes she needs a gentle reminder and if the impulse is too strong, the bin goes away for a little bit. So far, she's done great with this one (except when daddy and her were hanging out...). We still have this bin set up because she has so much fun.
