Valentine's Day is coming up and we've been busy with all things pink, red, and hearts. But more than that, we've been talking about how it's a special day to show others how much you love them. Isla certainly understands love and knows how to give it freely. Every night at dinner, Isla prays before we eat. Her prayer is always "Dear Jesus, thank you for this dinner and thank you for love." From the little girl who has so much love to give, she also teaches me so much about love. Michael and I often tell her that God gave her to us after we prayed and prayed and it's an honor to love her. She's our light and little love. I'm so thankful I get to love her and be loved by her. If you've ever experienced Isla's love, you know how special it is.
Every night in February so far, we tell Isla something we love about her (we do this with each other and Ewan too, but we've only been writing Isla's down). We hang a little heart on the wall with the thing we love. It's a fun way to tell her just how special she is :)
Isla and Ewan love each other very much. Ewan lights up when sis walks in the room. And Isla is always holding Bub's hand, giving him aggressive hugs, caring for him, and showing him how to do things. She is so sweet and patient with Ewan. I expected a lot more issues with a new baby, but so far Isla has transitioned really well. It's because she has such a big and caring heart (and also because we took a lot of time to prep and role play with her ;)). I can't wait to see their relationship unfold.
In other news, we've been dealing with a few health things over here. Isla had to get her eyes checked out because we've seen some concerning things specifically when she is looking at lights or the sun. But as of now, she's in the clear and everything looks good.
Two weeks ago Ewan came down with a hoarse voice. He had no other symptoms of being sick so we just kind of watched. And then one night he refused to sleep. He simply would not sleep, no matter what we tried. At about 1:00 am, he fell asleep on my shoulder and I held him until 4:00. Then Michael took over until 8:00. I haven't pulled an all-nighter since college and let me tell you, I never want to do that again! We eventually ended up with a diagnosis from the ENT doctor who found thrush on his voicebox. And then Ewan woke up on Sunday with a bulging soft spot. Of course it happened to be the one day in the last year that Michael got to do something for himself. He went ice climbing at Starved Rock, so I was alone and not sure what to do. My amazing mother-in-law came over to help me decide what to do and watched Isla while I went to the ER. The concern was fungal meningitis that causes brain swelling, which can follow thrush. Loooong story short, Ewan is in the clear and his scans looked great. Our pediatrician has no concerns and little man is doing well. But boy, that was a scary day.
Other than that, we've been going slightly stir crazy with this cold weather. I'm all about getting outside, but I'm just not Scandinavian enough to go out when it's -2. We all want to see friends, go outside, do fun things, and have some normalcy, but Covid is still a thing and we are stuck for now.
If I have to be stuck though, I'm glad to have my little love bugs with me :)
