Holiday Season 2021

So much has happened since my last blog post (back in November). For starters, we bought a new house! We have been so busy with the packing, planning, and working. This holiday season was the fastest one of my life and I know it's because we've been so house-focused. We also got hit with Covid REALLY HARD right before we were ready to list our house. We recovered in time to list our house, spent a few days away, and had 4 offers in a day and a half. We sold our house and close at the end of January. We move into our new house in the middle of January. So everything worked out perfectly, we just worked really hard and fast to get that done.

Christmas was wonderful. The Christmas season was short, but still great too. I just can't believe it's over! We also celebrated our 7 year anniversary somewhere in between house stuff and sickness. I finally feel like we are maybe on the other side of things. The house is almost completely packed up (not an easy feat with two toddlers) and we close on our new house tomorrow! We are ready for a bigger space and a settled feeling. We've been house hunting for a year or two. The market is CRAZY right now and we can't believe we snagged the house we did. It has about a half acre plot, not the big grand acreage I was hoping for. But we are ready for more room to grow and spread out. Maybe someday we'll have land, but right now we are at peace with this beautiful, new house. I can't wait to start living there. I am already envisioning a Christmas tree in every room for next year ;)

BUT, let's go back even further, I don't think I even posted about our Thanksgiving!! (I told you, we've been busy). So let's start there. Thanksgiving weekend was a great time spent with the Ready clan.

We spent the weekend eating lots of food, decorating Nana's basement tree, watching Christmas movies, decorating cookies, and getting in lots of cousin time.

We also started a new tradition: Christmas Tea with the girls. Nana, Isla, Aunt Rah-Rah, and myself all went to the cutest little tea depot just north of us. We enjoyed teas and a tier of soup/salad, sandwich, and dessert. Isla got her very own gourmet hot cocoa and some delicious icecream (then paid the price of a tummy ache afterwards). Such a fun day! We can't wait to go back next year. My favorite part of the day was when a woman told Isla she looked cute in her dress. In the most confident, sweetest voice Isla said, "I sure do! Thank you!" as she cocked her head. She cracks me up :)

Shortly after Thanksgiving we all got VERY sick. Covid hit our house after a year and a half of being as cautious as possible. It was terrible. We were so, so sick. The kids were miserable and the adults were doubly miserable. Have you ever had to take care of a really sick person while also being really sick yourself? I wish that on nobody! Fortunately, we all made it through and I'm glad to be on the other side of it. After being sick, we listed our house and things got hectic again. I tried my best to sprinkle as much Christmas fun in our days as possible! We enjoyed lots of baking, crafting, reading, and occasional movies :)

Finally, Christmas Eve arrived! We started with a June tradition of opening a gift on Christmas Eve day. We watched some old Christmas movies and anxiously awaited Christmas Eve with Mimi and Bupa. My parents made a feast for dinner and we enjoyed each other's company. We were bummed Uncle Ethan came all this way and then ended up with Covid so we couldn't see him. It was still a fun, special night though!

Then we set out milk and cookies for Santa, carrots for the reindeer and hurried off to bed! Christmas morning was absolutely magical. Being a kid at Christmas is fun, but being a parent at Christmas is amazing. I loved seeing the surprised expressions and excitement! We (VERY slowly) opened up our gifts. Of course, every gift needed to be played with for a minimum of 5 minutes, so our morning was extra long haha! Then we had breakfast and talked about the story of Jesus. Such a special morning!

Afterwards, we headed to the Readys. It was just like my childhood- Christmas Eve with mom's side and Christmas Day with dad's side. I was so happy to create such fun traditions for the kids this year. Our Christmas Day was filled with more food, more gifts, and lots of quality family time together. We celebrated Aunt Rah-Rah's birthday too :)

Ewan wore the Christmas outfit his daddy wore when he was little. Hilarious!

Right before I took the tree down, I remembered we needed to get our anniversary picture in front of it. This will be the last anniversary picture at our Cedar ct. house. The picture is blurry and we look like bums, but that pretty much sums up our life lately. Very chaotic, fast-paced, and tired looking :) Happy 7 years to us!

The rest of the time between Christmas and now has been spent doing all the normal things we can while trying to squeeze in house inspections, appraisals, and packing. The kids have been amazing troopers through these transitions. We also started our 1,000 hours outside count back up on January 1st. It snowed and Isla has wanted to spend every waking second in the snow :) Here's to hoping this year is filled with good things, deep learning, abundant joy, and lots of memories.

***HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU AND YOURS***
