Recapping May (and half of June)

Let's recap May, shall we? And I guess, half of June at this point! Again, most of our days are full of lots of outdoor time. That's pretty much it. We live for this warm weather! In May, we took a mini family trip to St. Louis, Nana and Pop Pop opened their pool, and we continued with house projects. Isla has also been begging for school, so I bought an official curriculum and we started that. June has felt like pure summer. We've been swimming, eating lots of homemade popcicles, staying outside late, hanging out with friends/family, and doing our best to not get sunburned. We've had some fun events mixed in there too.

I'm really looking forward to the rest of summer and I can't believe July is in two weeks!

If you know Ewan, you know he is obsessed with cars, buses, trucks, and any vehicle. We went to one of Pop Pop's car shows and he was in heaven.

Next up was a trip to the St. Louis Zoo. Isla had been wanting to see a hippo for a long time. She was also very interested in staying in a hotel. So, we did both! We found the closest hippo (St. Louis) and made a day of it. The kids had a blast! And we were surprised at how well the day (and night in a hotel) went. Such a fun trip!

Then, back home for more summer fun!

Over the course of the month, we raised caterpillars and watched them turn into butterflies. We did this last year and had such a fun time. This year, Isla was really involved. She measured them, drew them, read all about metamorphoses, took care of them, and let them go. Such a fun experience!

And then it was June! The month started out fun with cousin time and zoo class, but then summer sickness happened. Both kids had 4 days of fever, aches, chills, and fatigue. First Ewan was sick and then like clockwork, Isla was sick. We had to miss Isla's first dance class (which was so disppointing) and spent a whole week resting. I HATE when my kids are sick. It sends me into a spiral of anxiety, but like troopers they made it through.

We had a rough week of medical issues following being sick, so we had a family night to help. Isla chose pizza and frozen yogurt. Both kids were happy to be done with fevers!

We finished being sick just in time to celebrate Pop Pop's big day. He retired after 40 years at State Farm and turned 60 all in one weekend. The Readys had a big party and we all had such a fun time. The following day, we celebrated retirement/birthday/father's day at a fancy restaurant with the family. It was a fun weekend!

Next up, Fourth of July (Isla has a countdown on our wall). We just love summer :)

  1. I love the picture of Isla playing the trumpet, such purpose. And the pictures of Ewan holding poppops hand were so cute.
