The Kalahari and Fourth of July

We've had a busy last two weeks. Festive celebrations, family trips, and busy summer days.

For starters, we took our annual Ready trip in the Dells at the Kalahari Resort. We are very grateful to Nana and Pop Pop for gifting the whole family the trip. The kids had a lot of fun! They love a good water park and the Kalahari has everything you could ever want!

We arrived around lunch time and ate a quick lunch before heading straight to the water park!

The Kalahari really had a resort feel and is probably our favorite water park we've ever been to.

We've been to the Dells a few times, but it's usually a winter trip for us. So it was new and exciting to go in the summer time and use the outside water park too!

After hours of swimming, our very hungry crew went off campus for pizza at Moosejaw. It was delicious!

Then it was back to the resort for night time shenanigans.

It's not vacation without ice cream, right?

And our family likes to squeeze the most out of any trip we go on. So when everyone else went to bed, our family partied at the arcade!
And weirdly enough, Isla found her name on a teacup ride!

We honestly thought Isla was going to puke on her first ever intense thrill ride. She doesn't look too good here, does she?

On day 2, Michael ran out to get "vacation donuts" for our girl Eleanor. It's a thing we do now, I guess.

The park didn't open until 10:00, so we visited the morning craft table.

Nana and Pop Pop rented a cabana for the day, which was a game changer for the water park experience. It was nice to have a central spot complete with lounging chairs and our own personal waiter :)

Isla and Michael spent A LOT of time on slides! Ewan and I did a few, but not as many as those wild two that rode every single slide multiple times.

The little girls were troopers despite being tired.

For dinner, we went off campus again to Buffalo Phils. The kids all wore their matching Columbia shirts that we got for Pop Pop's birthday.

We've eaten at this restaurant before and wanted to share it with the rest of the family. Everyone liked the food that was delivered by train and the built in arcade and go-karts!

Here's what $100 at the arcade gets you in prizes hahaha

Then it was back to the Kalahari for more ice cream!

Then we went to the arcade at the resort for another round of fun. These places are like little casinos for kids.

Our family ended the night on our porch watching all the lights, eating snacks, and talking about our favorite parts of the trip.

On the last day of the trip, we decided on a boat tour on the Wisconsin River. It was a cool tour that included beautiful landscape and the history of the river and surrounding area.

Isla's favorite part- the eagle we spotted!

The tour included two landings. The first one we were able to explore the canyons and gorges called Witches Gulch. It was really cool and I couldn't believe this was Wisconsin!

The second landing included a dog jumping across Standing Rock, which is a location that originally made Wisconsin Dells famous.

After the boat tour, our little family of 5 continued the adventure. We shopped the downtown area after lunch and got (you guessed it) more ice cream!

Then we went to a safari-type zoo that definitely wasn't accredited and seemed a little shady; however, because of that we were able to pet and feed kangaroos, camels, giraffes, birds, and turtles. The kids even rode a camel!

Michael loved the bird room ;)

On the way home we drove through three separate storms and hydroplaned across the highway. Not the best ending. But we did eventually make it home.

Soon after our trip, it was already (somehow) the Fourth of July! Every Fourth, we spend the day at the Ready Ranch swimming in the pool, riding all the fun toys, going on the big slide, and finally watching fireworks.

This year was a stormy day, but we took full advantage of it by playing in the rain!

Eleanor knows how to write her name and loves to write all the letters now.

Fireworks are the best way to end the Fourth of July!

In between these two big events, we visited the library for books and lunch, we took countless naps, we gardened and took care of the neighbor's garden, we bowled with friends, we made good food (including food on the new blackstone grill!), and we have enjoyed the long summer days.

And soon we are on to our next adventure! Stay tuned :)
