We are living our best summer lives over here in the Ready household. Swimming at Nana's pool, playing with friends, climbing trees, cooking out as a family, and everything that feels like summer. Here is our latest life update:
Isla took a class all about turtles at the local nature preserve. Isla loves all animals and says she wants to be a veterinarian someday.
I'm not sure how or why, but Isla has recently expressed a deep interest in ballet. She watches ballet videos, listens to classical ballet pieces, wears tutus everywhere, and wants to be a ballerina. So I found a true ballet school in town and signed her up. Unlike organized classes we've done in the past, Isla LOVES ballet. She is so attentive and even practices at home. She's pretty cute in her ballerina apparel too :)
We were able to enjoy some music in the park with Nana. Our kids love music and I'm glad there are opportunities like this to introduce them to different types of music. When we got home, they wanted all their instruments out to practice :)
Of course, we've been continuing on with our schooling. Isla is just at a preschool level (and I really wouldn't even call it that). We only spend an hour a day, sometimes less, on what Isla calls "school". And she still begs me for more. We view all of life as learning and this is just our formal table time learning, but I'll keep on offering it as long as she's interested. We've decided we are year-round homeschoolers, meaning just because it's summer doesn't mean we stop learning for 3 months. This will give us so much flexibilty throughout the year to take the breaks we need/want.
I also consider living life part of our school. That means baking too! What's a better math lesson than baking yummy treats?
We recently took a spontaneous trip to the zoo. We were cooped up for days while I endured the WORST migraine I've ever experienced. Michael was a single dad for 3 days straight while I threw up and laid in bed from excruciating head pain. So when that was done, I decided we NEEDED to get out of the house. I'm so glad to have a zoo membership so we can go anytime we want, for long or short trips.
And all the time in between zoo trips and dance classes, you can always find us outside!
The most exciting thing lately was our big fourth of July celebration. We spent the whole day at the Ready's house, swimming, eating, playing, and eventually watching fireworks. Ewan had his first s'more and Isla watched her first firework show. The next day, both kids got to experience their first parade. It was such a fun weekend!
Isla is already asking when it will be fourth of July next :) I can't believe summer is halfway over. We have a lot more fun to squeeze in before the fall. Next up, a trip to Michigan (hopefully!), Ewan's second birthday, and maybe another family getaway sometime.
