All of August

August is probably my least favorite month of the year. It drags on with flaming hot temperatures while I am waiting for fall to arrive. The only fun thing is Ewan's birthday. But we made it through August and it was actually fun this year. We tried to squeeze in the last bits of summer that we could. Here is what we've been up to:

We tried to spend as much time as we could at State Farm Park before the pool was closed. We can't wait to go back next year. If we weren't swimming at SF pool, we were swimming at Nana and Pop Pop's house! My kids are fish!

We spend a few hours a week doing "school" because Isla begs for it. Sometimes, we even include poetry tea time and both kids love that (because it comes with cake!). This month we also learned about outer space since Isla has been very curious about what's in our sky. Pop Pop even pulled the telescope out for her.

Of course, we spent more time in the kitchen too. The kids love to bake and help out.

We visited a few different parks with friends. Daddy even joined us a couple times! Ewan loves to "SIDE DOWN" (he screams as he goes down the slide).

We have spent a *little* time in the garden, but it's mostly been left to weed over and die. We can't possibly eat the amount of tomatoes that have come up in the backyard, but Isla tries anyway.

If it's not miserably hot, we try our best to be outside as much as possible. Going somewhere other than home definitely helps us get those outside hours!

And on the days that the heat was too much, we did lots of fun indoor activities: reading, crafting, baking, playing, and dancing!

We had planned to go as a family to a farm in Indiana where we were going to meet Aunt Rah-Rah, Easton, and Nana. I didn't feel well so Michael took the kids himself and met them there. It looks like they had a really fun time!

The best part of August is Ewan's birthday. Somehow, some way, Ewan turned TWO! Our family tradition for birthdays is for Michael to take a day off work and we spend the whole day doing some fun adventure! Since Ewan is too young to choose, we chose for him and went to a new (to us) zoo. We saw so many cool animals and enjoyed a nice lunch afterwards.

And then Bubba's birthday finally arrived! We had a celebration with cousin Easton, who was born a week before Ewan, and all the grandparents/aunts/uncles. Both boys love vehicles, so it was a vehicle themed party. The boys had a good time. I can't believe Ewan is 2! I'd say his favorite gift was a tie between his fleece robe and vacuum cleaner (that really works!). He's an old soul.

It was a good month! We are looking forward to all the exciting things coming this fall :)
