Home sweet home! The kids and I (plus Mimi) took our annual trip to my childhood home to spend the week with Mimi, Bupa, Uncle Ethan, and his girlfriend Liddy. And of course the week we decided to go was the WORST air quality with the Canadian wildfires. Despite that, we had a really good time and we made due with what we could!
On the first day we stopped halfway at Warren Dunes to stretch our legs and play in the water a little bit. It's a full 6 hours all the way back home, so stopping is key for us.
The first full day in Davison we took things slow. Eleanor got her "travel donuts" :) Then we played outside, visited with Grandma June, went to my favorite restaurant of all time, and played at the park.
The next day was a trip to my favorite place- Frankenmuth! We go every year and enjoy everything it has to offer- their famous chicken, cherry goodies, yearly ornament picks, chocolate cheese, and everything Christmasy! It was a great and FULL day.
And then the wildfire smoke rolled in. We tried to limit our time outside because the AQI was over 600 eventually. So on the third day we visited the Sloan Museum of Science and History in Flint. It was a pretty cool museum with the history of the auto industry in Flint and hands-on learning for the kids. And we checked out the new dragon exhibit that Isla LOVED.
And then I got to see my very best friend, Crowder. Which is always a highlight for me when I go home :)
The air quality was still awful on Friday, so we went back to Flint to check out the Longway Planetarium. The kids had a lot of fun watching a star show! Then we visited Grandma June again.
We headed back to St. Joseph on Sunday to meet up with Michael. We got lunch, rode the historic carousel, enjoyed Kilwin's ice cream, shopped, and walked the pier. The smoke continued to affect us, so we decided to head home and cut our trip short, which was really unfortunate.
It was a bummer of an ending, but a really great trip.
Before our trip, we spent a lot of time with friends. We visited Clinton Lake for a swim, we watched Shakespeare in the park, the kids had zoo class, and we had a big cookout at our church.

And right before we left for Michigan, we had a family reunion. Two of my cousins and their families plus my aunt joined us for a great time. We had such a ice time and even watched our old movies we made as kids. I love that we got together and we hope to do this again next year.
And now we are home and playing catch up on laundry, yard work, and house chores. I love travelling and making good plans, but I really love the beauty and simplicity of home. And returning to that is always nice.
