August 2024

Is it strange to start a blog post with pictures of food? I think I get some kind of high from cooking delicious food and giving it to the people I love. And now that my garden is (over) producing, we have really good, fresh food. I'm literally harvesting baskets of food a day. There is nothing more satisfying. So the last few weeks have been me in my garden or me in my kitchen. The kids are just raising themselves at this point :)

Ok, now that we got that out of the way.

We have been soaking up the end of summer. We had our LAST pool day with our friends as all the lifeguards have to go back to school. We sure do love State Farm Pool. I am so thankful for such a wonderful place!

We are not starting our new school rhythms up for another week or two, but in the meantime the kids have been begging to do school. I ordered them workbooks just to ease their pain ;) In fact, as I write this, it is the first day of school in our district. This is the year Isla would officially be in kindergarten and I am incredibly thankful I don't have to send her away. I have never felt more right about a decision for our family than homeschooling. And today confirms that as Isla and I sit on the front porch watching the school bus roll by. More on that in another post coming soon.

We are still soaking up the last bit of summer while everyone else heads off to school. I love fall so it takes a lot of intention for me to live in the present and enjoy the season we are in; but, this year I am 100% still in summer mode and loving it.

I was able to have some fun this month too! Sarah and her cousin Emily invited me to the Shakespeare festival. We enjoyed watching Macbeth under the stars.
I also hosted our co-op's 3rd annual meeting. It's crazy to think we are starting year three! Those mamas are some of the best people I know and I am honored to do this homeschool thing right alongside them and their children. We had a BYOCB (bring your own charcuterie board) night and it was a hit. I had a sushi board, but I think the bread board was my favorite ;)
And then I was able to take a weekend away for myself. I shopped, watched movies, read books, and ate lots of sushi. I'm glad to have had a mental and physical reset.

The big August event in our house, though, is our Bubba boy's birthday. This year, he got 3 celebrations! The first one was with Easton at Nana and Pop Pop's house. The boys are exactly one week a part so it only makes sense that they share a party. They swam, opened presents, and ate cake. Nothing better!
The second celebration was with Mimi and Bupa. We had some yummy pizza and opened presents.
And on his actual birthday we started with homemade donuts and presents then travelled to Peoria to visit the Caterpillar headquarters to check out all the vehicles! His birthday ended with his first gymnastics class. I've never seen a more excited little boy than Ewan was for gymnastics. It was the perfect ending for our rumbly-tumbly four year old!

I am honored to be Ewan's mama and I am so proud of the sweet boy he's growing up to be. I can't believe he has been around the sun 4 times already. For some reason 4 feels like a really big step into the next phase. Although, he still has the royal meltdowns of a toddler, he is growing up in other ways that have just kind of sneaked up on us. I adore his cheesy smile that he'll flash at almost anything. He asks me to snuggle him at least 10 times a day and constantly reminds us how much he loves us. He (still) loves any vehicle. In fact, he has moved in to Isla's bunk bed so his old bedroom has basically turned into a vehicle shrine where every kind of truck, car, bus, plane, train, and construction vehicle live. His favorite food is "pistachios and candy", his favorite color is "all the colors", and his favorite thing to do is "have a party". We just love our Bubba boy :)
