Ewan's First Birthday

Well, it happened. My sweet baby turned ONE. This year somehow flew by, but the newborn days of Ewan seem like a lifetime ago. How does that work? Anyway, we made it. A whole year of the smiliest, sweetest, cuddliest, happiest baby. Ewan is clever, and funny, and sweet, and joyful. You can't be around him without smiling because his big, toothy smile is contagious. For the longest time we called him a slug because he took his sweet time learning any new tricks, but now we call him a stinker because he gets into everything (and eats everything!). He definitely keeps me on my toes. We sure love our 20 pound, super long one year old and we are blessed to be his parents.

The whole month of August was basically spent celebrating him. First, we started with a birthday celebration with Easton. People ask me all the time if Sarah (Michael's sister) and I planned on having our boys so close in age. The answer is no, that would be weird. But it sure is a fun surprise and experience to have them so close. Easton and Ewan are exactly one week a part, but couldn't be more different. I think for the foreseeable future, they will always have birthday parties together. It's silly not to. For their one year celebration the theme was Thing One and Thing Two from Dr. Seuss because what better way to celebrate those funny little boys :) It was a lot of fun!

Then Ewan's actual birthday came along. Michael took the morning off so we could all do something fun as a family. Ewan woke up to his first birthday stocking (a tradition in our family) that Isla mostly opened. Then we went to the zoo and Ewan loved seeing all the animals!

Then he had his one year check-up. Healthy, happy boy!

And finally, the last party happened in Michigan. I wanted my family and friends to celebrate Ewan too. So he got a second birthday party! It was a BBQ of fun :) My Grandma June, Aunt Darlene, and Crowder were able to join us too (and a visit from Aunt Devan and cousin Madelynn later), which made for a special time!

And although it wasn't technically for his birthday, we ended the Michigan time with a short trip to my favorite place on Earth- Frankenmuth, MI. The largest Christmas store in the world lives there, along with the cutest, quaintest German town. Both kids LOVED it. Isla couldn't stop saying "WOW!" and Ewan was pointing at everything. It was a dream come true!!

"Dad, take a picture of me by this tree!"

We found the Grinch section! We told her she could pick out any ornament in the whole store. We thought she'd surely pick a Grinch one (if you know Isla, you know she is OBSESSED!). But she picked a bumblebee and that was that.

It's tradition to walk through the River Place Village too. We found parrots, chocolate popcorn, big pretzels, Isla's first sucker, fudge, wine, and everything in between :)

It was a great month of celebrating our little man. I can't wait to see where this next year takes him. What a year it's been!
